Do you love practicing yoga outdoors in beautiful serene settings while listening to the sounds of nature? Are you curious about mindulness? Do you want to feel a deep connection to the world around you and truly see its natural beauty? Do you want to learn how to take better pictures and go beyond selfies and preset filters? This course is for you. Led by nature photographer & Yoga Lab Co-Founder Anna S. Engels, this workshop combines outdoor yoga, mindfulness meditation, and nature photography to teach you the art of seeing. This workshop also qualifies for Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Hours for yoga teachers.
Session 1: Sunday Oct 2 8:30 - 9:30am
Outdoor Yoga
at Rhoneymeade
Join Anna for a yoga class to center your mind and body, cleaning your inner lens to see the beauty around you more clearly. Practice underneath the trees at Rhoneymeade, a beautiful and serene setting to develop this awareness. Learn good functional movement and biomechanics for photography to help you get up and down with ease and see beauty from all perspectives without taking a toll on your body. Bring your own yoga mat, water bottle, and sunscreen. Sunny and shaded areas available.
Session 2: Sunday Oct 2 9:30 - 11:30am
Mindfulness Meditation & Photography Hike
at Rhoneymeade
The yoga class will be immediately followed by session of sitting meditation, walking meditation, and a mindful photography hike around the trails at Rhoneymeade. Photography is one of Anna’s favorite forms of meditation – learn her approach to this special practice, and try it out yourself. Learn how to go beyond selfies to feel a strong connection to nature and capture that feeling in an image. If you’ve been to Rhoneymeade Arboretum & Sculpture Garden before, you’ll see it differently this time! Bring good walking shoes, water bottle, sunscreen, and the best camera you have available. A phone camera will do just fine, but if you have a camera that is ONLY a camera (not a phone), please bring it. Take this opportunity to unplug from your phone and really see the world around you.
Session 3: Saturday Oct 8 4:00 - 5:00pm (STUDIO & VIRTUAL)
Photo Editing Tips & Tricks
at Yoga Lab Studio & Virtual
Go beyond preset filters and learn how to edit your photos to bring out the best in them. Editing and telling a story with your images is another step in the art of seeing, and will help others to see that beauty too. We’ll meet a week after Session 2 to process photos from our journey together. If you register for this session, you’ll share some of your photos from Session 2 with Anna and the group in advance of Session 3. Anna will choose some of those photos to show you her tips & tricks for editing in Photoshop. Join Anna at Yoga Lab's Studio space or virtually via Zoom for this session of photo-editing tips & tricks. We'll use the projector at the studio for live presentation with the option of joining via Zoom in order to screen-share and to walk you through the steps. We’ll create a slideshow collection from the group’s unique beautiful perspectives of the hike!

“Photography is a meditative practice for me. It's my way waking up to this moment, focusing on beauty, zooming in and seeing tiny details that I would miss if I wasn't being mindful, and zooming out and seeing the big picture when I feel stuck in my head or lost in the details.”
I'm very grateful to my parents - MaryLou Sunderland, a brilliant watercolorist, and my father, Jim Sunderland, an amazing photographer - for teaching me the art of seeing.
