ECO - ADVENTURE

Included Excursions

Your retreat includes THREE on-site guided activities to explore the local flora and cultural cuisine.

  • Guided Garden Tour & Edible Fruit Walk

Jungle Bay is known as “the Edible Resort” with over 100 varieties of tropical local plants and trees. Take an exploration walk with our garden experts, smell and taste the wide variety of herbs, fruits and spices.

  • Local Herbal Experience and Tea Presentation

Learn about the ancient herbal remedies of the island’s traditional people. It is no wonder Dominica has such a high number of centenarians when you realize they live off the organic plants grown in the island’s nutrient-rich soil. The fragrant herbs you will encounter during this presentation are grown right here in Jungle Bay’s garden. Make your own tea blends during this interactive ‘wellness experience for the senses’ where you get to see, touch, smell, and taste.

  • Caribbean Cooking Class

Jungle Bay is known as “the Edible Resort” with over 100 varieties of tropical local plants and trees. Take an exploration walk with our garden experts, smell and taste the wide variety of herbs, fruits and spices.

Also included are THREE off-site guided excursions to connect deeply to the volcanic local landscape and experience the wonders of the natural world:

  • World Famous Snorkeling at Champagne Beach

Champagne reef is part of the protected Soufriere Scotts Head Marine Reserve. Underground volcanic activity seeps through the ocean floor, then is cooled by sea waves and rises in a line of bubbles creating a memorable snorkelling experience. Fan coral, turtles and a variety of tropical fish are often sighted.

  • Middleham Falls Hike

Trek along the misty mountain trail with lush rainforest vegetation to the tallest waterfall on the island, Middleham Falls. Jaco parrots are occasionally heard or spotted. The end of the hike becomes a little steeper as you scramble your way down to the waterfall pool for a refreshing splash. Did you know that being around waterfalls exposes you to negative ions which are a purification to help counteract stress and strengthen your immune system? Packed lunch is provided

  • Rouseau Market and Trafalgar Falls

Experience one of the last remaining traditional markets in all of the Caribbean with its vibrant array of local fruits, vegetables and more. The lively Roseau Market is found along the waterfront where the Roseau River meets the Caribbean Sea. Explore the Botanical Gardens and enjoy panoramic views of the capital and the surrounding coastline at Morne Bruce. Continue to the famous twin waterfalls Trafalgar, located in the Trois Piton National Park. It is a short and easy 10- to 15-minute walk along a well-maintained foot path from the visitor center to the viewpoint of the falls. It is advised to bring local currency (East Caribbean Dollars) or US dollars in small bills for the market and souvenirs.

LOCATION

Set into the cliffside rainforest of southeast Dominica, Jungle Bay connects every guest to the soul of the island — adventure, spa, wellness, yoga, gourmet cuisine, local culture, and history, all within earshot of the Atlantic. It's one of the Caribbean's few successful, locally owned, five-star Retreat & Resort properties: proof, from the very beginning, that a resort could be built in harmony with the land it sits on rather than in spite of it.

ABOUT JUNGLE BAY…..

TRANSPORTATION - UPDATE

Roundtrip shuttle service from the airport is included for your comfort:

Fly into Puerto Vallarta

Mixto is only 12 miles south of Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR). Mixto’s 250-yard-wide secluded beach is accessible only by boat. Guests must book an arrival flight that lands no later than 4:00 PM and a departure flight that takes off no earlier than 12:00 PM. For safety reasons, nighttime boat travel is not available. Please make sure your flight times fit these guidelines.

There is no road access

Mixto is only accessible by boat, there is no road leading to the resort. This is important, so we’ll say it again - Guests must book an arrival flight that lands no later than 4:00 PM and a departure flight that takes off no earlier than 12:00 PM for safety reasons in order to avoid nighttime boat travel.

After landing at Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR), take a moment to change into comfortable clothes for your trip to Mixto. You’ll be arriving by boat, so expect to get wet up to your knees when stepping off the boat and onto our beach. We suggest wearing shorts, sandals, and sunscreen. We also recommend safeguarding your cell phone and valuables in a waterproof dry bag.

Provide your flight details to Yoga Lab by December 3, 2027.

We’ll take good care of you! Roundtrip shuttle service is already included in the price of the retreat. Please send your detailed flight itinerary for both arrival and departure (airline, flight number, flight landing, and take-off schedule) to info@yogalabstudio.com at the time of final payment (by April 1, 2024), and notify us in case of last minute changes.

ETHICS & SUSTAINABILITY

Yoga Lab is committed to creating an ethical and sustainable retreat experience. From our choice of venue, vegan meal plan, eco-adventures, and carbon offsets included, you can travel with a good conscience.

Socially-Responsible Eco-Friendly

Mixto is committed to making a change in the travel and hospitality business by taking on eco-friendly practices (recycling, composting, low energy consumption appliances, etc) and by respecting their community (hiring mostly from the local town, investing in training, giving staff opportunities to grow). They give back to their community through school supplies, scholarships, personal growth and empowerment lectures, and improvement of infrastructures. Leave your hairdryer, soap, and shampoo at home - Mixto will provide you with biodegradable soaps and shampoos because they recycle the water and use it for irrigation purposes.

Carbon Offsets Included

What are Carbon Offsets?

With carbon offsets, you can counteract your personal carbon footprint by helping build clean energy and carbon-reducing projects. Yoga Lab will offset your greenhouse gas emissions for this retreat by purchasing Native carbon offsets.

What project will this help build?

Yoga Lab will offset your carbon emissions for this retreat by supporting Native’s Waste to Fuel Project: Improving Agriculture and Livelihoods in Mexico. This project provides small-scale and subsistence farmers with cookstoves, biofuel, and organic fertilizer, which generate savings and increase crop yields and incomes, helping to improve livelihoods. Over the course of 4 years, 3000 farming households across Mexico will participate and contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions over 20 years. Read a full description of the project on Native’s project page!
