Scott Brown

RYT200, LYT Level 1

My inversion journey is indelibly tied to my yoga journey, which began approx 2009, but has faint roots via exposure to my mother’s infrequent, but vaguely fascinating, practice. Having ultimately come to yoga and pilates as a means of “rehab” for ankle injuries suffered in pursuit of middle-age glory playing basketball, the sport of my youth, my yoga practice took a more dedicated turn in 2017 with exposure to the LYT methodology of practice I found at YogaLab. LYT’s pragmatic approach, which honors anatomical insight to guide postures and sequencing, coupled with its robust approach to inversions, helped me explore and achieve a level of practice I previously thought unreachable.

My experience includes completing my 200hr YTT with YogaLab (May2020…where I have taught intermittently since Sep2020), completing my 200hr Level 1 LYT Certification (Sep2020), as well as attending numerous handstand workshops (mostly in-person) by teachers including: Yuri Marmerstein (@yuri_marmerstein), Kyle Weiger (@kyleweiger), Lara Heimann (@lara.heimann), Ulrik Ask Fossum (@ulrikonhands), and Tom Merrick (@thebodyweightwarrior), to name a few.

My motivation for teaching a Handstand workshop is to, hopefully, help make a daunting and elusive physical goal seem more attainable by providing insights obtained from my experiences going through the process both on my own and as an active “consumer” of hand balancing methodologies via other workshops; a process that, for me, had a starting point where kicking up onto the wall was a prospect that terrified me.
